Cardiovascular technicians help doctors in patient diagnosis and treatment to normalize cardiovascular system. Some of the functions they perform include ultrasound procedures, monitoring heart rates of patients, cardiovascular procedures, reviewing of patient files, explanations of test procedures to the patient as well as the operation and care of test equipment. Cardiovascular technologists may specialize in any of the three areas of practice: invasive cardiology, echocardiography, or vascular technology. Specialists in invasive cardiology help doctors with cardiac procedures such as cardiac catheterization and angioplasty. Specialists in echocardiography give assistance with non-destructive procedures, which do not require the insertion of instruments in the patient’s body. Some of the common examples include an ultrasound or echocardiogram, electrocardiogram (EKGs), and stress tests. Specialists in vascular technology help physicians in the diagnosis of disorders affecting the circulation and blood flow.
